My Background
I was born in and lived in Peterborough, home of the Posh. Like the vast majority of junior school boys, I’d play 40-a-side games on the asphalt playground before school started, then again at break time, lunchtime, and after school. We’d even trespass on school grounds during the holidays to play football.
In secondary school, I played for Crossfields in the Sunday league, where I won Sportsman of the Year. We traveled to Holland as a team to play several Dutch teams, which was a great experience.
I went to university in Staffordshire because it was free and didn’t have any real career prospects. We had the occasional kick-about, and I was in a five-a-side team called Sporting Delphi in a league organised by Greek students.
Since graduating from university, I haven’t played much football or kept up with any teams, so my knowledge of recent events in the sport isn’t up to date. My interest lies more in the history, politics, and cultural aspects of the game, as seen in my articles on Rugby and Mob Football. If you're looking to learn from people with up-to-date knowledge, I highly recommend the other great teachers on this site.
Teaching English
After graduating from university, I didn’t want to go back to Peterborough—I wanted to travel the world and soon discovered that teaching English was a great way to do that.
My first teaching job was in Japan, which was soon followed by numerous other countries in Asia and the Middle East. My most recent job was with the Ministry of Energy and Mining in Sudan. Because of COVID and the war there, I ended up working online. I love teaching people online, which is why I created this website. I hope you like it!
