History of Brighton & Hove Albion FC

Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, also known as the Seagulls, was founded in 1901. The club is based in Brighton, a city on the south coast of England. For most of its early history, Brighton played in the lower divisions of English football. However, in 1979, the club reached the First Division (now the Premier League) for the first time.

Brighton’s biggest challenge came in the 1990s when financial problems almost caused the club to disappear. In 1997, the team lost its stadium, the Goldstone Ground, and had to play home matches in Gillingham, 70 miles away. However, thanks to loyal fans and new leadership, Brighton survived and later moved to the Falmer Stadium, known as the Amex, in 2011.

In 2017, Brighton achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time. Since then, they have established themselves as a competitive team in the top division.

Foreign Players at Brighton

Brighton has welcomed many talented foreign players over the years. In recent seasons, the club has focused on signing young, international players. One of the most famous is Alexis Mac Allister from Argentina, who helped Brighton reach European competition and later won the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Other notable foreign players include Moisés Caicedo from Ecuador, who became one of the Premier League’s most exciting midfielders, and Kaoru Mitoma from Japan, known for his dribbling skills and attacking play. The club’s scouting system has discovered talented players from all over the world, helping Brighton grow into a strong team.

Sussex by the Sea

Brighton & Hove Albion fans proudly sing "Sussex by the Sea" before every home game. This song was originally written in 1907 by William Ward-Higgs and has become the unofficial anthem of Sussex, the county where Brighton is located.

The lyrics celebrate the beauty of Sussex and the strength of its people. Brighton fans sing it to show their passion and unity. The anthem is a key part of the club’s identity and makes the atmosphere at the Amex Stadium special.
